The Problem
Automated License Plate Readers, or ALPRs, are AI-powered cameras that record your car's license plate, color, make/model, stickers, physical damage, and more. They upload this information to a centralized cloud database that makes a heatmap of your known location and allows potentially any police officer in the nation to view it without a warrant.
Hundreds of innocent people get pulled over and arrested because of false flags raised by the cameras, while police officers access the data whenever they want to track ex-lovers and stalk coworkers.
The cameras themselves are known to be insecure. They have physical buttons you can press to gain easy access, and some already stream their camera feed to the internet, unsecured, waiting for people to stumble across them.
